Elena del Barrio
Sociologist and PhD in Health Sciences with the thesis ‘Age-Friendliness, subjective well-being and active citizenship’. Master's degree in Social Gerontology.
She currently works at the Matia Institute Foundation developing projects related to active ageing, living conditions, ageism, and working on Age-Friendly Cities and Communities projects. Previously, she was the principal investigator in the diagnosis of Donostia-San Sebastián as an Age-Friendly City (2009) and in the Studies on the Living Conditions of Older People in the Basque Country (2010, 2014 and 2020). She has been coordinating the Age-Friendly Basque Country project since 2012. From 2013 to June 2016, she was a member of the Social and Behavioural Sciences Committee of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG), and from 2012 to 2020, she was coordinator of the Image and Ageing Working Group.
